Schilling Robots selects Teledyne RD Instruments DVL for ROV station keeping

San Diego, CA, November 4, 2005 -- Teledyne RD Instruments is pleased to announce that Schilling Robotics LLC (a member of the Schilling Sub Atlantic Alliance) has purchased six Workhorse Navigator DVLs (Doppler Velocity Logs) for installation onboard its Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV).

The first four DVLs will be installed onboard Schilling Robotics UHD (Ultra Heavy Duty) ROV systems to be delivered to Geo ASA of Bergen, Norway. The UHD offers users a highly advanced control system and operational modes, including StationKeep™. StationKeep™ is an advanced dynamic positioning mode that utilizes multiple sensors onboard the ROV to automatically hold the vehicle in a single position relative to the seabed. The primary sensor used to support this mode is Teledyne RDI’s Workhorse Navigator DVL. The DVL will also be a critical component of Schilling Robotics new Autotrack mode, which is designed to allow users to follow pre-planned routes, or streaming waypoints from survey computers.

Teledyne RDI’s DVLs provide high rate, precision navigation data utilizing patented BroadBand bottom-tracking algorithms. These frequent navigation updates can be used stand-alone, or can be integrated into an existing navigation system to provide user with confidence in their exact underwater location, even in deep water. DVLs have become the industry standard for precision navigation applications onboard ROVs, Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), towed vehicles, surface vehicles, and diver platforms.

Jason Stanley, Schilling Robotics VP & Regional Manager, Gulf Coast explains their reason for selecting Workhorse Navigator DVL, “We selected this particular DVL for its accuracy and reliability. The excellent customer service we have received from Teledyne RDI was also a key factor in our decision to continue our now 5-year relationship with Teledyne RDI to offer the industry the most advanced ROV in the market today.”

Teledyne RD Instruments is a leading manufacturer of ADCPs (Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers) and DVLs for scientific, commercial and military applications.
